NYC SOCIAL CLUB (2020)

As Public Artist in Residence (PAIR) with the Department for the Aging (DFTA), Nova proposed that social clubs replace senior centers — a new name but also a new concept.

With NYC a global epicenter of the Covid pandemic, DFTA expanded its planning process for older New Yorkers. They invited expansive thinking from atypical stakeholders to design for the future in three sessions that took place on May 27, 28 and 29, 2020.

This NYC Social Club report offers a detailed look at our design thinking efforts. Use the tools in this report to deepen our understanding of social isolation and to re-imagine gatherings as intergenerational connective spaces that transcend technology and barriers, even pandemics.
